# Organise Your Directory with Headings and Categories

**Platform:** Web and Mobile
**User Type:** Standard, Admin, Admin + Billing, Org Admin
**Difficulty:** Beginner
**Estimated Time:** 5 minutes
**Last Updated:** October 2026

---

### **Quick Summary**

You can add headings and categories to **Plant & Equipment**, **Materials** and **Rate Items** in your **Directory** to organise your Schedule of Rates. Headings are optional. Use them to group related items, or keep a simple list without them. Daywork sheets also show a **Category** column for Plant & Equipment and Materials, matching Rate Items and Advanced Labour.

### **What You'll Learn**

- How to add a heading or category to your Directory
- How to add items under a heading
- How categories appear on daywork sheets

### **Before You Start**

**Prerequisites:**

- Access to the **Directory**
- Plant & Equipment, Materials or Rate Items you'd like to group

### **Step-by-Step Instructions**

#### **Step 1: Add a Heading or Category**

1. Select **Directory** from the top menu
2. Select the **Plant & Equipment**, **Materials** or **Rate Items** tab
3. Click **New** \[Needs confirmation: how to choose a heading or category instead of a single item, and the option's name\]
4. Enter the heading or category name and save

📱 **Mobile Note:** You can add materials in the Mobile App, but rates can only be set in the Web App.

#### **Step 2: Add Items Under a Heading**

1. Add a new item and choose the heading it belongs to \[Needs confirmation: how an item is assigned to a heading, and whether existing items can be moved under one\]
2. Save the item. It appears under its heading in the list.

Items don't need a heading. You can mix grouped items and standalone items in the same list.

#### **Step 3: See Categories on Your Daywork Sheets**

Daywork sheets now include a **Category** column in the Plant & Equipment and Materials sections, matching Rate Items and Advanced Labour. Your clients see this column on sheets you send them.

💡 **Pro Tip:** Use headings that match how your client thinks about the work, such as by trade or stage. It makes your Schedule of Rates and sheets easier to review.
